Shots started falling and the defensive pressure picked up in the second half as the Papermakers pulled away to win their Class 4A GSHL opener.
Courtney Clemmer scored 11 points and Haley Hanson added 10 for Camas (4-1, 1-0). The Papermakers outscored the Plainsmen 27-14 in the second half, including 15-5 in the final period.
“We shot terrible in the first half,” Camas coach Scott Preuninger said. “They only had two points in the fourth quarter until the last 30 seconds. In the fourth quarter, we played defensively very well.
“Evergreen played well. They hung in there and did a really good job.”
Makenzie Smith led Evergreen (2-4, 0-1) with 13 points.
