Darien Chase scored 20 points, including a three-point play with 20 seconds left, as Mountain View won a nip-and-tuck game on the road.

Chase, a freshman who also had 12 rebounds, put Mountain View ahead 60-56.

Heritage responded by drawing a foul on a 3-pointer. Tanner Lunberg made two of three free throws.

Mountain View followed by missing two free throws with four seconds left. Heritage passed the ball to midcourt and called a timeout with two seconds to play. The Timberwolves’ last-second 3-pointer was off the mark.

Both coaches praised their players’ toughness in a game that was close the entire way.

“I thought today was the first game of the year where I could go home with head high,” Heritage coach Drew Preuninger said. “We were more competitive. We were in it, We had a chance.”

“We played with a lot of toughness,” Mountain View coach Aaron Shepherd said. “We’ve won a few close games, so that helped us.”

Jourdon Boulds added 10 points and eight assists for Mountain View (5-2, 1-0).

Lundberg scored 19 points to lead Heritage (1-4, 0-1).
