Boys basketball: Evergreen 53, Camas 51

Greg Washington led a fourth-quarter surge as the visiting Plainsmen edged the Papermakers in the 4A Greater St. Helens League opener for both teams.

Washington scored eight of his 18 points in the final period.

Camas (0-5) had two looks at a tying basket in the final seconds but couldn’t get the ball to drop.

“They were the more aggressive team in the fourth (quarter),” Camas coach Skyler Gillispie said.

The Papermakers started well, scoring 19 points in the first quarter. Camas led by two heading into the final period.

Tyrus Hosley added 16 points for the Plainsmen (3-2).

For Camas, Ethan Unger scored 19 points and Matt Murphy 15.
