TRI-CITIES — The founder of a Tri-City pet rescue organization says she is resigning because there are more pets being euthanized at the facility than necessary and because it is no longer fully volunteer-operated.
The Tri-City Herald reports Molli Van Dorn, who founded Pet Over Population Prevention in Richland, says her decision comes after months of conflict within the organization.
Van Dorn says the organization’s funds are no longer going exclusively to rescuing pets, but also to pay for an accounting firm, administrative staff and attorney Craig Johnson. She also claims that too many of the animals are being put down for lack of a proper placement.
But Johnson disagrees with Van Dorn’s claim. He says she’s only disputed the reasoning for euthanizing the animals in “a handful of incidents.”
