A Camas family was displaced Saturday when a rain-soaked hillside gave way, doing significant damage to their home, according to the Camas-Washougal Fire Department.

The family was home at about 5 p.m. when the slope above their house at 2424 N.W. Iris Court gave way, sliding into a corner of the structure. The house sits in a cul-de-sac beneath a steep hill.

The slide caused a garage wall to partially collapse and left the affected side of the home structurally unsound, according to a fire department bulletin.

No one was injured.

The impact of the landslide broke loose an electrical panel on the house’s garage wall, causing a short circuit and concern about a possible fire, but no fire damage was discovered, the bulletin said.

Camas building and fire department officials remained on scene to assess damage and help the homeowners. A damage estimate is not available.
