A fire at an east Vancouver house Tuesday started after a leaf blower was left plugged in and sitting in the rain, Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said.

Firefighters responded to a house in the 4800 block of Northeast 141st Avenue at 7:15 p.m. Crews doused the blaze, containing the fire to the wall of a garage, Scarpelli said.

The blaze was caused by an electrical short or malfunction and caused an estimated $5,000 in damage, she said.
