Andrea Griffee scored 15 of her 17 points in the first half to spark La Center to a non-league win over visiting Washougal.

“I think we caught them on a bad night,” La Center coach Herm VanWeerdhuizen said. “They were late arriving because of all the traffic. … Andrea kind of carried us in the first half.”

Northbound Interstate 5 was backed up because of landslide north of Woodland.

Griffee hit 3 3-pointers in the first half as the Wildcats jumped out to a 21-7 lead after one quarter before Washougal battled back to within 43-35 after three quarters.

“We were able to get some free throws and hit some shots in the fourth to seal it,” VanWeerdhuizen said.

Griffee also had five steals. Taylor Mills had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Shelby Vermeulen had 13 points, and Bethany Whitten had five points, six assists and four steals.

Beyonce Bea paced the Panthers with 21 points.
