The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has seen what Sheriff Chuck Atkins is describing as a dramatic increase in the number of new concealed pistol license applications in the past few weeks.
“I want every citizen who applies for a concealed pistol license to be able to receive their license in a timely manner, so I have authorized additional staff hours to be dedicated toward processing these applications, as well as to background checks being submitted for new firearm purchases,” Atkins said in a Facebook post.
As of Tuesday, the sheriff’s office had issued 216 concealed pistol licenses since Dec. 1. In November, a month with 18 total working days, staff processed 610 licenses. The office issued 690 licenses in October.
News outlets around the state have reported similar spikes in concealed weapon applications, gun sales and background checks, an indicator for gun sales, in recent weeks, mirroring a pattern that has followed previous mass murders.
