Week 1 winter sports prep athlete of the week nominees

Here are the nominees for The Columbian fall sports prep athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Dec. 5.

Voting will continue until 8 p.m. Thursday, with results announced in Friday’s edition of The Columbian.

ALYSSA BLANKENSHIP, WASHOUGAL GIRLS BASKETBALL: Blankenship averaged 18.3 points a game as the Panthers opened the season with three wins.

SHANNON BLIQUEZ, EVERGREEN GIRLS BOWLING: Bliquez averaged 201 in three matches, including a high game of 229.

CAMERON CRANSTON, UNION BOYS BASKETBALL: Cranston averaged 23.3 points a game as the Titans opened the season by winning two of three.

SARAH ELLIS, COLUMBIA RIVER GYMNASTICS: Ellis won the bars, floor and all-around with a score of 35.0 in a four-team meet at Naydenov.

BRYAN PERSON, PRAIRIE WRESTLING: Person won the 285-pound division of the John Birbeck Classic in Lacey, winning all matches by pin.
