The community is invited to an open house and handmade wood products sale Friday at Friends of the Carpenter’s new day center for the homeless.

The open house will be from noon to 1 p.m. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., locally made wood products will be sold, including holiday ornaments, crosses, pen and pencil sets, toys and more. Both events will be at 1600 W. 20th St., Vancouver.

Snacks will be served, and lattes and smoothies will be available at the Pacific Perks Espresso cart.

Guests can tour the day center, which will provide showers, laundry, mail service, clothing and snacks, as well as a clean, warm and safe place for people to spend time. Officially opening Monday, the day center will be operated by Share and is funded by the city of Vancouver, Clark County and the Vancouver Housing Authority. Local businesses, including Identity Clark County, Southwest Washington Contractors Association and RSV Construction, contributed materials, equipment and labor to the construction effort.

Friends of the Carpenter is a faith-based day shelter that provides safety and a sense of purpose to members of the community. For more information, go to friendsofthecarpenter.org.
