WASHOUGAL — The Heritage Timberwolves frustrated Washougal all night with their defensive effort, then won the game with defense in the final seconds.

Lisi Thomas had two blocked shots in the final six seconds, securing a 41-40 non-league girls basketball victory.

Amy Gould scored 14 points to lead Heritage, and she assisted on the go-ahead basket by Deja Gomez with 1:41 to play.

The rest of the game was a battle of defense. Heritage’s Cassidy Morris had two steals in the final two minutes. She also led her team with 10 rebounds.

The Timberwolves did all this after trailing by 13 in the first half.

“We just got more hungry for the win,” Gould said. “People would doubt us, and we want to prove them wrong.”

The Class 4A Timberwolves, now 2-2, say this was a big win, coming against a team considered to be among the best in the 2A Greater St. Helens League this season.

“I break-danced on the locker room floor,” Morris said.

Beyonce Bea led Washougal with 14 points. Alyssa Blankenship added 13.

The Heritage defense held Washougal to 24 percent shooting from the floor.
