East Vancouver — When Rob Barber and Cheri Jones of Longview stopped into the Humane Society for Southwest Washington, they received a bit more than they came for. They came to adopt their new dog, Madeline, but also received balloons, dog cookies and a complimentary adoption fee.

The celebration was because Madeline’s was the society’s 4,000th adoption this year.

“This particular adoption marks an increase of more than 300 adoptions from 2014, and 500 more than 2013,” said Stacey Graham, society president, in a release from the organization. “Thanks to new partnerships with local vets and a bolstered transport program, we are able to save more lives and complete even more families through adoption.”
