A Vancouver man faces charges after police say he led officers on a pursuit and crashed into parked cars, a portion of a house and an apartment complex late Tuesday night.

Officers responded to the 3300 block of Grand Boulevard just before 10 p.m. Tuesday for a report that a man was intoxicated and assaulting a female in the street, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

As officers were arriving to the area, the man, later identified as Douglas Atkins, 41, fled south in a vehicle at a high rate of speed, hitting an unoccupied vehicle in the process, police said.

During a pursuit that extended more than a mile, police observed his vehicle drive off the roadway in the 600 block of Grand Boulevard and drive through a porch of a residence, according to Vancouver police. The vehicle then went airborne, passing over the top of a parked vehicle and landing on the roof of another vehicle before careening down an embankment and landing against an apartment complex, according to police.

Atkins was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries, but police say he will be arrested on suspicion of eluding, fourth-degree domestic violence assault and hit and run.

He is being processed for a potential driving under the influence charge, police said.
