Published: December 2, 2015, 6:02am

NW Noggin Art and Neuroscience Coordinators Jeff Leake and Bill Griesar will discuss music and its effect on the brain at a free breakfast event from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Thursday at Brickstone Ballroom, 105 W. Evergreen Blvd.

Learn about memory and emotion and how Alzheimer’s can damage neural networks essential for some aspects of memory, but leave others — including physical and emotional responses to music — relatively unscathed. A clip will be shown of the film “Alive Inside” illustrating the effect of music on nursing home residents suffering from dementia.

Seats are limited. To reserve a seat, call Amy Johnson, 503-318-3582. For more information contact Bill Griesar at bgriesar@gmail.com.

Funds raised will benefit Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
