A woman was taken to the hospital Sunday after she jumped from the Interstate 5 Bridge and was taken to shore by boaters on the Columbia River.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the area at about 2:30 p.m. after someone walking across the bridge called 911 to report a woman had climbed over the railing and jumped, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian. The caller reported that the woman could be seen treading water in the river, according to radio traffic.

Two people in a civilian water craft picked her up and helped bring her to shore in Vancouver, said Sgt. Deb Libbey of the Vancouver Police Department. The woman, who was conscious and alert, was treated by paramedics and taken to a local hospital for a health evaluation, Libbey said.

More information about the incident was not available Sunday.
