GLENWOOD, Wash. — Rain fell on the Cougar Creek Fire on Mount Adams, but not a lot where it was most needed.

Washington Interagency Incident Management Team No. 5 reports the west and south perimeters of the 54,000-acre blaze received nearly an inch, but the troublesome northeastern perimeter got only a tenth of an inch.

With the increase in relative humidity and drop in temperature, crews have had a brief window to gain ground on containment lines. The fire is 40 percent contained.

A new management team from Southern California will take over the fire on Monday.
