A stubborn fire at a Woodland manufacturing plant has caused the closure of Fifth Street while firefighters work.
According to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian, the fire is in a hopper that contains wood products, such as chips or sawdust. The location of the fire was given as 215 Fifth St., which is part of Portco Manufacturing, which makes flexible packaging products such as bags.
The road is a major thoroughfare on the city’s west side. It has to be closed because fire hoses are being stretched from hydrants on the east side of the street to the west.
Firefighters have already been on scene for more than an hour, and a few minutes ago called for additional equipment.
There are no reports of injuries or damage to the main Portco plant.
