Two people were hurt Sunday morning when a car ran a red light and collided with a van in the Orchards area.

The silver 2006 Honda Civic was traveling north on state Highway 503 when it failed to stop for a red light at Northeast 76th Street just before 7 a.m., according to the Washington State Patrol. The car then hit a white commercial van that had been traveling east.

The Honda Civic’s driver, Ashley M. Town, 24, of La Grande, Ore., sustained injuries and was taken to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, WSP said. She was treated at the hospital and released Sunday, according to hospital staff.

The driver of the van, Aleksandr P. Batazhan, 31, of Vancouver, was not injured, but his passenger, Vadim V. Karpuk, 29, of Vancouver, was. Karpuk’s injuries apparently did not require hospitalization.

Troopers determined that driver inattention caused the crash and cited Town for failing to yield, WSP said.
