• Soak up the sun and the rhythms of Latin jazz at the 18th annual Vancouver Jazz Festival from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and Sunday. Today starts with music by the 204th U.S. Army Jazz Brass Band and the Seattle Jazz Singers, followed by Brazilian singer Claudia Villela, blues guitarist Johnny A., jazz pianist Billy Childs and Grammy Award-winning quartet the Manhattan Transfer. Sunday features the Mel Brown Trio, vocalist Jane Monheit, Grammy-winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra and legendary jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval. The festival also features wines to taste, artwork by local artisans and local cuisine, all in Esther Short Park, West Eighth and Columbia streets, Vancouver. Pacific Paradise Luau is a free community party hosted by the Market at the Vancouver Mall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Enjoy a dance performance by Ora Nui Tahitian Dance Troupe, local food, cultural demonstrations and Polynesian crafts. There’s still a chance to get a little bit more summer with next weekend’s events.

Heisen House Sunflower Fest and Music Jam is an homage to the sunflower, with homemade crafts, wine tasting, food and performances by local folk, jazz and bluegrass bands from noon to 9 p.m. Aug. 29. All donations will be used toward building and site restoration at Heisen House Vineyards, 28005 N.E. 172nd Ave., Battle Ground. 360-713-2359.

• Northwest Battle Buddies hosts Celebrate Freedom and Family day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 30, kicking off with its fourth annual dog walk, followed by music by Amber Sweeney and a car show in Alderbrook Park, 24414 N.E. Westerholm Road, Brush Prairie. The nonprofit helps match trained service dogs with combat veterans suffering PTSD or depression.
