1. 18th-century sailor for the day

The Lady Washington, a brig that embodies American maritime history during the late 1700s, will make port in Washougal for two days of tours and sailing. The family-oriented Adventure Sail will take passengers out on the river for a living history experience from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 22 and 23. Tickets are $47, $39 for ages 12 and younger. There will also be an evening sail on the river from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 22, with tickets for $45. Visitors can step aboard the brig of Lady Washington for a self-guided tour from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 23, with its crew in period costume to answer questions and share sailing tales at the Port of Camas-Washougal, 24 S. Inspired by the Lady Washington’s visit, the organizers of the Portland Pirate Festival will be hosting a Square Rig Shindig from 7 p.m. to midnight Aug. 22. This pirate-themed evening of music, dance and grog takes place at Doomsday Brewing Company, 421 C St., Washougal. There will be performances by Chervona, BilgeRats and Pyrettes, along with belly dancers and face-painting by mermaids during this free, all-ages event. www.portlandpiratefestival.com

2. La Center shines bright

The annual Our Days Celebration kicks off in La Center with the glowing Twilight Parade at 8 p.m. Aug. 21. The parade’s theme is “Back to the Future,” with floats and community groups decorated in lights. It will be followed by a screening of the movie “Paddington,” rated PG, at 9:30 p.m. at Sternwheeler Park, 100 E. Fourth Street. Aug. 22 begins with a 5K Fun Run/Walk hosted by the La Center High School cross country team starting at 8 a.m. Aug. 22 at Holley Park, 1000 E. Fourth St., followed by the All-Comers Cruise-In, kids zone activities, musical performances and beautiful baby contest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Holley Park, finishing with a street dance from 8 to 10 p.m. with music by Pull for Fire. Aug. 23 ends with Barbershop in the Park, a showcase of the power of a cappela from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Sternwheeler Park amphitheater. 3. Early harvest

Urban Abundance and Slow Food Southwest Washington host a Harvest Celebration and community cider pressing starting at 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 21. The community is encouraged to help harvest pears from the Foley Community Orchard, 12018 N.W. 21st Ave., for the Clark County Food Bank with Urban Abundance, or bring fruit to donate. There will be three cider presses to make cider along with yard games and music by Lincoln’s Beard. For cider, please bring a jug from home to fill and clean apples to press. 4. Community over bagels

Bagel On! Fun Fair is a community event striving to highlight Jewish food, culture and music. Hosted by Congregation Kol Ami, 7800 N.E. 119th St., Vancouver, the event features Israeli dancing with lessons, music Avi Haviv and the Hora Tzigane Klezmer Ensemble, craft displays, Shofar blowing and the dreidel game. 5. Musical theater

“Up the Fall,” presented by PHAME, is an original musical following characters from myths around the globe, set to a folk score composed by singer-songwriter Laura Gibson. The production features a cast of actors with and without developmental disabilities, including PHAME students and actor mentors from the theater community. PHAME provides arts education and performance opportunities for adults with disabilities. The musical runs 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 and 27-29, and 2 p.m. Aug. 23 on the Morrison Stage at Artists Repertory Theatre, 1515 S.W. Morrison St., Portland.
