Electronic highway signs across Washington will display new alerts for missing seniors starting next week, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The “Silver Alert” messages will be to inform the public of endangered missing people who are at least 60 years old. Those messages had been handled as Endangered Missing Person alerts, which are used for anyone possibly in danger due to age, health or mental or physical disability, according to WSDOT.

Silver Alerts will be displayed on electronic message signs, once verified by the Washington State Patrol, when there is vehicle information included. WSDOT also uses its message signs to display Amber Alerts, which are used to locate children believed to be in danger.

Silver Alerts will be displayed starting Thursday.
