Southeast Evergreen Highway will be closed at Southeast 102nd Court from Tuesday through Thursday while city crews fix a defect beneath the roadway.
The road will be entirely closed during the work, and no vehicles will be able to pass through, according to a city press release. Traffic will be detoured to State Highway 14 using Ellsworth and 88th Avenue/ Lieser Road. Message boards will alert drivers to the closure, and nearby property owners have been notified.
The closure is needed to temporarily repair a structural defect related to an old underground conveyance system at the Mill Creek crossing. Workers discovered the defect while excavating for a city walkway project between Southeast Ellsworth and Southeast 100th Court.
The temporary repair will allow walkway construction to progress and be finished in October. A long-term solution to the defect at the Mill Creek crossing, which will require environmental permits and engineering, is expected next year.
