GLENWOOD, Wash. — Crews on the Cougar Creek Fire on the south side of Mount Adams were able to hold the blaze within its perimeter on Wednesday despite strong winds.
Efforts today will be include keeping the fire south of Cunningham Creek along the northern edge. On Tuesday, crews were successful in burning out the southeast corner of the fire.
Strong winds are expected to continue today.
Tract D of the Yakama Indian Nation, state trust lands in the Glenwood Block and Gifford Pinchot National Forest trails on the south and east sides of Mount Adams are closed.
Pinchot roads Nos. 80 and 82 also are closed.
The fire is at 23,900 acres and is 20 percent contained. Firefighting personnel battling the blaze numbers 465.
