Friends of a Clark County man injured in a motorcycle crash are hosting a fundraiser Saturday for his ongoing care and medical expenses.

Michael Scoggins was riding a 2006 Kawasaki EX250 on the evening of Aug. 24, 2013. He was traveling north on Northeast 152nd Avenue when the driver of a 2000 Chrysler minivan pulled in front of him and the two vehicles collided. Denni Hamilton, the driver of the minivan, did not see the rider, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Hamilton was cited for second-degree negligent driving, though a District Court judge cleared Hamilton of wrongdoing.

Michael Scoggins broke three vertebrae in his neck, broke his back in two places, sustained contusions to his ribs and broke his forearm, according to his mother, Devery Scoggins.

He stayed in the hospital for about four months before returning home, Devery Scoggins said.

Michael Scoggins, now 23, is using a wheelchair and has been doing physical therapy for the past two years.

“He’s still getting feeling back, still gaining movement,” Devery Scoggins said. “We want … to keep him going to OHSU, to keep him getting these feelings back.”

Community members are invited to a spaghetti feed and raffle from 6 to 11 p.m. at the parking lot for the Ryonet Corp., 12303 N.E. 56th St.

Baskets to be raffled off include family and date night gifts, a girl’s bike and helmet, and Seattle Seahawks items, among other things.

Dinner plates cost $10 for adults and $5 for children, with the goal being to have 300 people attend. Organizers are also asking for one can of kitten food per entry, which will be donated to Second Chance Companions.

Food and cake and prize baskets have been donated but organizers are still looking for chairs and tables and volunteers for the event. If you’re interested in volunteering or can provide tables and chairs, call 360-991-7409.
