Washougal — Local artist Elida Field led Washougal students through three hourlong art classes using chalk pastels during the week of Aug. 2. She showed the students how to draw figures step-by-step, but also allowed them to individualize their works. “My goal in teaching art is to show the kids how to create freely without any fear as to how it will look in the end,” Field said in a release. “There is no ‘right or wrong’ and there are no mistakes in art. This allows kids to try things out of their comfort zones and see how fun it can be to think outside of the box. You want to add some pink polka dots to your butterfly? Why not? Your elephant looks more like a giraffe? Why not make it into a girelephant?”
