Big innings have gotten the best of the Camas-Washougal Babe Ruth 13-year-old all-star team at the World Series, but the local boys still have two more pool play games to turn it around.
Tri-Valley, California scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to bust open a 0-0 game Monday. The Pacific Southwest representatives earned a 6-1 victory.
Tyler Forner went 3-for-3 at the plate for Camas-Washougal. He also drove in the team’s only run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gideon Malychewski had two hits, two stolen bases and scored the only run.
Camas-Washougal had a 3-0 advantage in the top of the fifth inning Sunday, before Ithaca, New York rallied for a 4-3 victory.
Ithaca scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the score. Holden Lazarus drove in four runs on three hits, including the game-winner with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
Malychewski and Evan Stott each had two hits for Camas-Washougal, and Kolby Broadband scored twice. Malychewski struck out nine batters in 6.2 innings pitched. He did not allow a hit until the fourth inning, but ran into trouble in the fifth.
Pool play games continue today and Wednesday at Russ Diethrick Park, in Jamestown, New York. Camas-Washougal plays at 11:30 a.m. today, and 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Day helps Hazel Dell
Hazel Dell Metro outlasted Booneville, Missouri 1-0 in a nine inning thriller Saturday, at the 14-year-old Babe Ruth World Series in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Jackson Day, of Camas, put down a suicide squeeze bunt and Liam Kerr scored the winning run.
Hazel Dell bounced back from a 6-4 loss Sunday with a 16-1 victory against Seabrook, Arkansas Monday. Day hit a 2-run double during eight-run first inning.
Hazel Dell plays at 3 p.m. today, and 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
