Evergreen Tennis recently presented three interns with alumni advantage memberships in recognition of their participation in the facility’s summer program and their accomplishments in graduating from Camas High School and going on to college.

The paid internship program provided five local high school students the opportunity to work alongside tennis pros on the court, under the direction of Junior Program Head Pro John Heim.

“We struck gold with our interns,” he said. “They brought tremendous energy and provided strong competition on the courts.”

The interns included 2015 CHS graduates Jonathan Ho, Nitin Beri and Esther Kwon, and well as current Papermaker Mark Vasat, and Owen Carlson, who attends a private school.

Evergreen Tennis Manager Caryn Vitek explained that as part of their internships, the youth modeled what the pro was instructing, helped students who needed assistance, practiced with the more advanced players, and managed court equipment.

“Additionally, they received a commission for referring new students to Evergreen Tennis,” she said.

The Evergreen Tennis alumni advantage memberships provide Ho, Beri and Kwon with the privileges of the Evergreen Tennis advantage membership for the next four years.

“Anytime they are home from school, we hope they will come in to visit and enjoy playing with former classmates.” Vitek said.

The interns leave for college with Ho attending the University of Pittsburg, Kwon going to the University of Richmond, and Beri going to the University of Colorado.

Beri, Ho and Kwon served as team captains during their senior tennis seasons at CHS.

Evergreen Tennis, Clark County’s newest indoor tennis facility, is a 27,000-square-foot translucent covered building with four courts. Located at 5225 N.W. 38th Ave., in Camas, it offers both junior and adult tennis instruction, along with recreational and competitive play.
