1. Elephant ear for the road

Take one last Ferris wheel ride during the final three days of this year’s Clark County Fair. In the 99.5 The Wolf Grandstands at 2 and 7 p.m., cars will destroy other cars in the demolition derby Aug. 14; trucks will race and roar during the Tuff Truck event Aug. 15; and monster trucks will destroy mud and cars alike Aug. 16. Livestock and 4-H event highlights include a robotics demonstration at 1 and 6 p.m. Aug. 14, 15 and 16, barrel races at 8 p.m. Aug. 14, a 4-H dog agility competition at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 15, a junior livestock auction at 11 a.m. Aug. 15 and a horse drill team competition at 3 p.m. Aug. 15. Visitors also can see magic tricks, pirates, jugglers and comic-book heros from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Aug. 14 and 15 and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Clark County Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield. All grandstand entertainment is included with fair admission. Regular admission is $11.25, $9.25 for seniors, $8.25 for ages 7 to 12, and free for ages 6 and younger. 2. A stroll to savor

The Hough Foundation invites wine and beer fans to explore Uptown Village and downtown Vancouver during the sixth annual Sip and Stroll. Attendees can visit the 29 participating locations, featuring two wine or beer types to sip at each spot along the self-guided tour, plus shopping specials, music and activities. Proceeds benefit the Hough Foundation’s educational programs for Hough Elementary School students and the neighborhood. The fundraiser runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 15, starting from the Burgerville Center for Responsible Community Leadership, 1602 Main St., Vancouver. A free shuttle is available along the route. 3. Drive-in, walk-in, bike-in for movies

Go a little retro with a modern twist during the PDX Drive-In Movie Spectacular. Moviegoers can see “Ghostbusters” (1984) on Aug. 14, followed by “American Graffiti” (1973) on Aug. 15. “Young Frankenstein” (1974) will be shown Aug. 20, with next weekend featuring “Poltergeist” (1982) and “Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan” (1982). Car club displays, activities, music, short films, food vendors and beer garden also will be part of the fun starting at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 at the Portland Expo Center, 2060 N. Marine Drive, Portland. Movie audio will be accessible via FM signal, along with outdoor speakers for bicyclists and pedestrians. 4. Communitywide summer gathering

The town of Yacolt will host Junk and Jazz, a communitywide yard sale and music festival. Treasure hunters can start searching registered sales at 8 a.m. Aug. 15. From 1 to 7 p.m. that day, there will be a talent show, activities, food vendors and music by Castletown, Bobbilynn Forbus and the Jonathan Pierce Project at Yacolt Town Park, 409 W. 5. Built for speed

The Slo Poks car club will host its Uptown Village Show and Shine on Vancouver’s Main Street. The event offers handmade trophies for the best in hot rods, customs, rat rods, collector cars and motorbikes, with the show open to all. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Hough Foundation. Show participants and those who come to look at the cars are asked to bring a donation for the school supply drive. The 19th annual PDX Adult Soap Box Derby features a brave group of racers testing their handmade vehicles and their mettle on the curves of Mount Tabor in Portland. Attendees can see handmade cars from the speedy to the spectacular along the racing route. The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15 at Mount Tabor City Park, Southeast Salmon Street and 60th Avenue, Portland. www.soapboxracer.com
