Vancouver Public Schools is hosting Go Ready, its second annual back-to-school-readiness festival from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hudson’s Bay High School, 1601 E. McLoughlin Blvd.
The free event features food, entertainment and kid-friendly activities and prizes. District students and their families can receive free immunizations, haircuts and gently used clothing. About 50 community partners will provide information about early learning, counseling, health care, housing and more.
Donated backpacks and school supplies will not be distributed at this event. Instead, they will be distributed later at each school.
Go Ready is organized by the district’s Family-Community Resource Centers, which provide support for district families during the school year. The event serves the district’s growing number of students eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Eligibility for subsidized meals is one indicator of poverty, which can affect readiness to learn.
