Stuff bus with school supplies Saturday

Battle Ground — North County School Readiness volunteers are seeking new school supplies and backpacks for K-12 students living in poverty who attend Battle Ground, Hockinson, Green Mountain or Woodland public schools. Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, volunteers will collect donated school supplies at the Battle Ground Wal-Mart, Fred Meyer, Safeway, Albertsons and at Mill Creek Pub.

Each year about 750 to 900 K-12 students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunches receive backpacks and school supplies needed to start the school year on equal footing with classmates at North County School Readiness Day

To volunteer for either Stuff the Bus on Saturday or School Readiness Day on Aug. 21, call 360-687-5007.

Requested items:

• Backpacks.

• School supplies: composition notebooks; wide or college-ruled notebook paper; colored markers; colored pencils; pencil holders or pouches; blue, black and red pens; No. 2 pencils; glue sticks and white glue; crayons; highlighters; pencil erasers and pink erasers; rulers; pencil sharpeners; folders; binders and pointed scissors.

• Checks: Payable to NCCFB with “school readiness program” written in memo section; mail to NCCFB, PO Box 2106, Battle Ground, WA 98604.
