Clark County — The La Center Grange is hosting a forum on Alternative 4, a controversial component of Clark County’s Comprehensive Growth Management Plan update, at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The forum, at 325 W. 5th St. in La Center, will pit opposing land-use groups Clark County Citizens United and Friends of Clark County against each other to weigh the pros and cons of Alternative 4. A representative from Clark County Community Planning will also attend, according to a news release.
The alternative, one of four proposed land use plans, was developed and proposed by Councilor David Madore. The alternative would reduce the minimum sizes of lots in areas zoned for agriculture, forest and rural land. Proponents say it will offer landowners more freedom to subdivide their property, while opponents fear more minimum lots will have potentially disastrous environmental impacts.
The forum comes about a week after the release of the draft supplemental environmental impact statement, which outlines how the four alternatives will affect Clark County. To read the statement, visit www.clark.wa.gov/planning. Community Planning is accepting comments on the statement until 4 p.m. Sept. 17.
The forum is free and open to the public.
