SHERWOOD, Ore. — A fire In Sherwood has caused two partial collapses of an 85-year-old Portland & Western railroad trestle.
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said early Tuesday that only one-third of trestle remains standing. The rest may collapse at any time as it burns throughout the day. Before the fire, the trestle spanned 600 feet and stood 50 feet above a stream.
The brush fire that surrounded the trestle is fully contained.
A dozen firefighters are positioned to ensure a collapse does not ignite another fire in the surrounding brush.
The goal is to protect the neighborhood south of the burning trestle and the businesses to the north.
