A second-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Vancouver’s Ogden neighborhood caused more than $500,000 in damage, according to Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli.

The cause of the fire at Van Plaza Apartments, 8011 N.E. Fourth Plain Blvd., remains under investigation, Scarpelli said. Investigators are exploring electrical or discarded smoking materials as possible causes, she said.

The fire originated on an exterior deck and ended up damaging the decks and living rooms of two units at the complex, Scarpelli said.

The structure sustained an estimated $295,412 in damage and residents lost an estimated $221,559 in contents.

An estimated four families were impacted by the blaze.
