Meet the library director finalists

Fort Vancouver district sets public meet-and-greets for Monday, Tuesday

Fort Vancouver library officials will introduce three finalists for the job of executive director in public meet-and-greet sessions Monday and Tuesday.

The Fort Vancouver board of trustees selected them in a nationwide search to replace Nancy Tessman, who is retiring after three years as executive director.

The candidates are:

• Peter Bromberg, associate director for public services, Salt Lake County Library Services, West Jordan, Utah. He oversees 10 branch libraries and system-wide reference and information services.

As a member of the executive management team he guides the direction and growth of the library and leads strategic planning.

Earlier in his career, he worked for the Spokane County Library District.

• Amelia Shelley, executive director, Garfield County Public Library District, Rifle, Colo. Shelley has been her current post since 2007.

Shelley oversaw a $28 million capital effort that built six new library facilities from 2009 to 2013.

• Jon Worona, division manager, San Jose Public Library, San Jose, Calif. He manages 12 branches and is the system’s chief information officer.

From 2007 to 2013, Worona was at the San Francisco Public Library; he was acting CIO when he left for his current job.

Three public meet-and-greets have been scheduled, including two in the Vancouver area: Monday at Vancouver Community Library and Tuesday at Three Creeks Community Library (both sessions are from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.)

The other session is 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday at Stevenson Community Library, 120 N.W. Vancouver Ave., Stevenson.

People attending the public sessions will be able to fill out comment forms that the trustees can use in making their final selection.

Previously, Tessman said that she will remain until the new executive director is on board.

Tessman earns $135,000 a year.

The executive director oversees a 4,200-square-mile district that includes 12 community libraries and three library express/library connection locations.
