A Vancouver woman who was allegedly involved in a crash Wednesday afternoon following a suspected residential burglary made a first appearance in Clark County Superior Court on Thursday.

Mariah L. Humphries, 19, appeared to face allegations of residential burglary, driving under the influence and vehicular assault.

Vancouver police officers were called about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to a two-vehicle crash at Mac-

Arthur Boulevard and South Morrison Road, Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

When police arrived, they learned a 2002 Ford Focus had failed to yield to a Ford Ranger pickup in the intersection. The driver of the Focus, identified as Humphries, was injured, as was the Ranger’s driver, whose name was not released.

Court documents say that a mail carrier told police he saw suspicious activity before the crash in the 300 block of St. Louis Way. A woman, whom he identified as Humphries, signed for a package at a home.

Police contacted the homeowner, Edith Orozco-Ramirez, who said she was sleeping and awoke when she heard her back door open. She said she went to investigate and found her kitchen cupboards and refrigerator door open. She then saw two people standing in her backyard eating food, which she recognized as hers, and confronted them, the affidavit said. They drove away.

The male suspect, who was apparently a passenger in the Focus at the time of the crash, fled before police arrived. He is known by police, Kapp said, and he has a Department of Corrections warrant out for his arrest.

Officers, including a K-9 unit, searched for the man but did not locate him. Police suspended the search after about an hour, Kapp said.

Judge Derek Vanderwood appointed attorney Diane Grecco to represent Humphries.

Her bail was set at $35,000. She is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 20.
