Why: 3Peaks Public House & Taproom recently opened next to the Pacific Northwest Best Fish Co.’s fish market and cafe in Ridgefield. It is the newest addition to Pacific Northwest Best Fish Co., a family-owned and -operated business.
The focus of 3Peaks is on handcrafted beers on tap and wine with food items provided by the cafe next door. Mobile food vendors are brought in Friday through Sunday evenings for additional options.
The whole family is welcome, and there are old-fashioned sodas for the younger-than-21 crowd.
What I tried: I tried a cup of the clam chowder and the PNWB Halibut sandwich. The clam chowder is made New England-style. I compared it to my last cup of clam chowder, which I had at McGrath’s Fish House, and found it superior. Unlike McGrath’s, which was more like a thin potato soup with a scant amount of clam pieces, 3Peaks’ is rich and creamy and loaded with clam pieces.
The halibut sandwich is served on an oversized fresh roll. Two pieces of lightly breaded halibut, thinly sliced red onions, Tillamook pepper-ack cheese, tomatoes, leafy green lettuce and tartar sauce are added to complete the sandwich. Overall, the sandwich was good but it was a bit dry. I ended up eating most of the components of the sandwich separate from one another. If I order it again, I would ask for extra tartar sauce; this might solve the issue. The sandwich was served with lightly salted shoestring french fries. They were an appetizing accompaniment.
