Four-run ninth sends Oregon to opening win Junior tournament

Hawaii and Nevada are also winners at Propstra Stadium

Travis Helm went 2 for 5 as Beaverton-Aloha, Ore., scored four times in the top of the ninth inning to beat Selah 6-2 on the first day of the Junior League Western Regional Tournament at Propstra Stadium.

Tommy Wahlin and Connor Patrick pitched Oregon to the win.

Hawaii 20, Montana 0 — Carter Hirano went 3 for 4 and combined with Joey Casarez on a one-hit shutout for Pearl City, Hawaii. That game was stopped after five innings.

Nevada 10, Alaska 2 — Centennial of Sparks, Nev., scored 10 runs on just three hits. Gavin Salazar was 2 for 4 with a double for Ketchikan, Alaska.

The tournament continues Thursday with Nogales, Ariz., vs. Sandpoint, Idaho at 9 a.m.; Manhattan Beach, Calif., vs. Snow Canyon, Utah at 1 p.m.; Gilroy, Calif., vs. Centennial at 4 p.m.; and Pearl City vs. Ketchikan at 7 p.m.
