Investigators have identified the person whose body was found last month in a field near Ridgefield as a Portland man.

Robert Lee Huggins, 56, died of multiple blunt and sharp force injuries, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Huggins has a criminal history, including an arrest in May 2012 in Multnomah County, Ore., for a warrant in Marion County for reckless driving, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

He had another stay in Multnomah County Jail in October 1997 for another Marion County warrant for allegedly violating parole, the agency said.

Huggins’ body was found by loggers just before 6 a.m. on July 1 in the middle of an open field about 100 feet south of Northeast 179th Street near 15th Avenue, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives said that it appeared the body was dumped in the field rather than the death occurring at the scene.

Detectives with the sheriff’s office Major Crimes Unit spent July 1 taking a 3-D image of the scene and walking around the field searching for anything that might help them determine what happened, according to the sheriff’s office.

No arrests have been made, said Sgt. Kevin Allais, who heads the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit. Other details about the case were not released “to preserve the integrity of the investigation,” Allais said.
