OUTSTANDING YOUNG EDUCATOR AWARD

Janice Broten, a leadership instructor at La Center Middle School, was the recipient of the Outstanding Young Educator Award for 2015 from The Washington State Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She will accept the award at the Washington Educators’ Conference in Bellevue in October. Broten’s students plan pep assemblies, spirit days, dances, fundraisers, service projects and bullying presentations for La Center Middle School. For the past nine years, Broton facilitated the school’s annual Kids Making Miracles for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital fundraiser, and students raised more than $42,000 during that time.
