Alexis, Anna, and Alexis all earned A’s on the softball field Wednesday for the Union Titans, and now there is a three-way tie in the loss column in the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League.

Alexis Staton hit a two-out, run-scoring single to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, then Anna Aguon won it with a base hit, giving the Titans a 2-1 victory over Battle Ground.

Alexis Kron gave up one run to get the win from the pitching circle.

Meanwhile, Camas got a win over Mountain View, putting the Papermakers at 6-2 in the GSHL. Union and Battle Ground are each at 5-2.

“All I’m thinking is what I can do for my team and where the ball needs to go,” said Staton. “It just felt good. It felt right. I haven’t had a hit like that in a while.”

Aguon then stepped to the plate. She echoed Staton’s philosophy, just trying to make something happen for all the Titans.

“We win as a team, not individually,” she said.

Both players credited pinch hitter Hannah Prather for getting the rally started with a lead-off single. Amanda Lail followed with a bunt single. Two outs followed, leaving it up to Staton and Aguon.

Parker Boyd struck out six and got the tough-luck loss for Battle Ground. Alexis Morrison drove in the Tigers run with a single in the sixth inning.

Battle Ground, Camas, and Union are battling not only for a league title but also one of the top two seeds for the district tournament — the top two receive a first-round bye.

“It’s really important to keep our heads in it,” Staton said. “Make sure we don’t get the No. 1 or No. 2 spot in our heads.”

“Don’t let our guard down,” Aguon added.

After all, the 4A GSHL softball race is too close to call.
