Fircrest — The Vancouver Metro Senior Softball Association announced that its April 9 charity tournament raised $20,470 toward building a new ballfield at Pacific Community Park. Half of the money came from players, and the other half came from an anonymous grant to match whatever was donated up to $100,000. At the tournament, 108 players spread across eight teams each played two games in Happy Valley, Ore. There was also a silent auction and garage sale, with proceeds going to the park. The group has raised nearly $200,000 toward its $439,000 goal, according to a release from the organization.
