Last weekend’s prescription drug take-back event collected 1,595 pounds of pills from 787 people.
Numerous local organizations — Clark County, law enforcement agencies, Clark College, Kaiser Permanente, La Center United and Prevent! Coalition — teamed up to host the free event on Saturday.
The Clark College location collected 269 pounds of pills. Kaiser Permanente Cascade Park collected 695 pounds. Kaiser Permanente Salmon Creek collected 524 pounds. And the La Center City Hall site collected 107 pounds of pills.
All of the plastic pill bottles were recycled and the pills were incinerated.
PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center offered prescription drug lock boxes to everyone who turned in unused medications. Burgerville provided coupons for free milkshakes or hamburgers.
Unwanted medications can be disposed of year-round at several collection sites across the county. For more information, look up “medications” at www.recyclinga-z.com or call Clark County Environmental Services, 360-397-2121 ext. 4352, or Prevent! Coalition at 360-952-3397.
