AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION AWARD

Richard Sawyer, associate professor of education at Washington State University Vancouver, received an award for a book he co-authored: “Understanding Qualitative Research: Duoethnography,” at an American Educational Research Association conference this month. The award for significant contribution to educational measurement and research methodology recognizes a publication for quality, originality and potential impact.

ASSOCIATION FOR CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION ADMINISTRATOR OF THE YEAR

Susan Dixon, director of college, career and technical education for Evergreen Public Schools, was named administrator of the year for Region V — encompassing 16 states in the West and Midwest — by the Association for Career and Technical Education. Dixon was chosen based on her accomplishments, innovations and her contributions to the college, career and technical education community. She will represent Washington and Region V at the 2015 ACTE National Convention in November in New Orleans. ​

CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY STUDENT EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

Josh Ingebretson of Vancouver was named Central Washington University’s student employee of the year. He is a resident assistant for Alford-Montgomery Hall, which houses 180 students and the Music Living Learning Community. Ingebretson was valedictorian of his 2012 class at Hudson’s Bay High School. He is a junior at Central, pursuing an interdisciplinary studies degree with a focus on administration in higher education. He was chosen to attend STARS College in June in Orlando, Fla.


ESD 112 REGION CLASSIFIED SCHOOL EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

Eddie Sawyer, an instructional technology facilitator for Vancouver Public Schools, was named the region’s classified employee of the year. Sawyer led a project to introduce students with autism to devices, helping them to communicate and connect with others. This year, he is leading a project to deploy 5,000 iPads to the district’s middle-school students. Sawyer began his career with the district 22 years ago as a high-school summer intern.


NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL WORKERS AWARDS

RaeJean Hendricks and Corrine Anderson-Ketchmark, both of Vancouver, were recognized at the National Association of Social workers-Washington Chapter awards dinner last month in Seattle. Hendricks received the Outstanding Student award; Anderson-Ketchmark received the Social Work Advocate award. The organization aims to enhance the profession of social work and promote diversity, inclusion and social justice.


VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION WEEK GOVERNOR’S AWARD

Jim Warren of Vancouver was honored for his commitment to the community by Gov. Jay Inslee at a ceremony this month at the state executive mansion in Olympia. He and his wife, Donna Warren, have volunteered with Volunteer Connections/Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Vancouver since 2003. Together, they’ve contributed more than 4,400 hours of service to the community through the Red Cross Blood Program and other nonprofits.
