Washougal limited R.A. Long to an unearned run and two hits Monday, in Longview. That was all the Lumberjills needed to defeat the Panthers 1-0 in softball.

Paige Forsberg pitched all seven innings for Washougal and gained eight strikeouts. Kayla Lagerquist delivered the only hit for the Panthers.

“We played a solid game defensively, we just needed to do more with our at-bats,” said head coach John Carver.

Washougal outlasted Mark Morris 13-11 in a much different game Wednesday, in Longview. Morgan Ratcliff snagged a line drive at third base with the tying runs in motion for the final out of the game. The sophomore also sparked a seven-run sixth inning by driving in two Panthers with a single.

Forsberg reached base in all six of her at-bats, scored three times and drove in two runs. Becca Bennett scored three runs. Keira Stogin scored twice and knocked in a run. Courtney Shelley and Abby Young each added an RBI.

“That one was a circus,” Carver said. “The lead changed at least four times.”

Washougal hosts Hudson’s bay Wednesday and Ridgefield Friday. Both games begin at 4 p.m.

Mikylah Bausch pitched a perfect game for the Panther junior varsity team Monday. She retired all 15 batters she faced before Washougal beat R.A. Long 12-0 in five innings. Bausch also had nine strikeouts.
