Castle Rock — Annual maintenance work will temporarily close the Toutle River rest area next week, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Both the northbound and southbound rest areas will be closed from 6 a.m. Monday, April 27, to 5 p.m. Friday, May 1, according to WSDOT. The Toutle River Rest Area is located on Interstate 5 at Milepost 54, just north of Castle Rock.

The closure will allow crews to work on the facility’s plumbing system and conduct routine building maintenance. The Toutle River rest area is one of the busiest in the state, with about 2.19 million visitors each year, according to WSDOT.

WSDOT recently completed maintenance work at the Gee Creek rest area in Clark County.
