A Washougal woman was arrested Friday in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured a 5-year-old boy, according to the Washougal Police Department.

The crash occurred at 6:13 p.m. in the 1500 block of North 22nd Street in Washougal when a northbound 1994 Ford F-150 pickup struck a boy who had just emerged from a driveway riding a Big Wheel tricycle, said Washougal police Sgt. Geoff Reijonen.

The boy suffered facial cuts and abrasions on his knees and shoulders and was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Reijonen said. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Reijonen said witnesses reported that the driver had unsuccessfully tried to leave the scene in the pickup and began walking north toward Washougal River Road.

Washougal police canine handler Kyle Day and his K9 partner, Ranger, tracked the driver to a field south of the 1800 block of Woodburn Road. The driver, who had hidden in a shallow hole and covered herself with soil, surrendered after receiving a second K-9 warning with Ranger only five feet away.

Reijonen identified the driver as Marsha Perry, 36. He said she was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run with injury, driving while suspended and on an unrelated misdemeanor warrant.

The crash remains under investigation, but officers do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the incident, Reijonen said. Officers from Camas and Vancouver aided in the search.
