Southbound traffic on Interstate 205 was blocked for about a half-hour Wednesday night after police responded to a suicidal man on the 63rd Street overpass.

The call came into 911 just before 8 p.m. Police blocked the freeway north of the overpass and diverted traffic to Padden Parkway.

Deputies with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office talked with the 19-year-old man, who was threatening to jump off the overpass, and convinced him to step back over the railing to safety, according to the sheriff’s office. The man was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment, the sheriff’s office said.

The freeway reopened around 8:25 p.m.
