Image Elementary in Evergreen Public Schools has decreased energy use by 68 percent since 2009. That garnered the school a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools designation, one of three in the state and 58 schools nationwide announced by Secretary of Education Arne Duncan on Wednesday.
The schools are being recognized for exemplary efforts to reduce environmental impact and energy costs, promote better health and ensure effective environmental education.
In addition, Gaiser Middle School in Vancouver Public Schools was designated a Washington State Green School by the state for reducing environmental impact and costs; or improving health of students and staff or providing effective environmental and sustainability education.
