The U.S. House Appropriations Committee approved a legislative directive from U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, on Wednesday instructing Veterans Affairs to collect data and address why the agency is experiencing such a high rate of medical providers who leave the system. According to information from Herrera Beutler’s office, veterans are waiting 30-plus days for health care appointments due in part to the turnover.

The appropriations bill also carves out funding for other Southwest Washington priorities, according to Herrera Beutler’s office, including money for suicide prevention activities and money to help homeless veterans.
