A free clinic on catching northern pikeminnow in the Columbia River sport-reward program will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, 2108 Grand Blvd.

Eric Winther, project leader of the pikeminnow program, will be the speaker.

The reward program resumes on May 1 at all 17 registration stations along the Columbia and lower Snake rivers.

Winther said the program rewards have been revamped to make it easier to make more money.

This year, the base reward is $5 per pikeminnow 9 inches and longer, up from $4. The reward is $5 for the first 25 taken, $6 for pikeminnow Nos. 26 to 200 and $8 for each fish after 200.

It used to take 100 pikeminnow to get to the second tier and 400 to the $8 amount.
